What Do People Do With This Big Paper???

I am asked this question so often that it is starting to lose its allure. I have several snappy answers at hand (not all are suitable for printing) but I often say that it depends on who you ask. Every unique one of you does something just a bit different with your paper. So, here is what I am proposing: I would like for you to leave a comment that tells me a thing or two about what you are doing with all that luscious paper (taking it out and petting it occasionally does not count - well, it counts but I am hoping for something that will make sense to the uninitiated...they can discover the joys of fondling on their own). In return, I will randomly select a name from the comment list and send that person a treat. How does that sound?

I use it for a few different uses. I make cards with the beautiful paper. I use it for the Coptic Stitch books. It can also be used for beautiful wrapping paper.

Well, I am a scrapbooker. So when I come to your store and buy that luscious paper I take it home and cut it down into sheets for scrapbooking. It always looks beautiful!

Hi Corey! I do lots of things with the big paper, depending on its thickness. Currently, I buy the student essay books (lined paper notebooks, usually black and white, sometimes called composition notebooks that students write essays, term paper, etc. and turn in to their teachers) - right now is a great time to get these at Wal-Mart, Target, about .60 cents at discounted price...anyhoo, I customized the books with your papers on the front and back covers, make a book mark that matches and market them as Journals. One of the big sheets covers several books - occasionally I'll get some of Corey's 7-Gypsies tape that has different things on it and re-tape the black binding that is all ready on the essay books for a different look.

My latest project I tore pieces off and used the strips as paper mache to create a series of bowls.

I have never bought the large paper. I have bought 8 1/2 by 11 and 12 x 12 paper and mostly it goes unused. I buy it because it's so pretty and don't think to use it for my cards. Beautiful paper is hard to resist! I don't mind receiving your emails. You are not bothering me. Tuesday Club Stamper Sandy

I trim it and put it in a frame for instant artwork; I also use it for various craft projects (like cards, etc.) A big sheet lasts a long time!

The first uses which come to mind are covering books, those made from scratch or old books. Wrapping a gift is a double gift if I'm careful with the tape; the recepient can use the paper afterwards.

The inside front and back of any book looks great with this paper glued onto it.

When journaling or if I come across something that I don't want to see again, nor anyone else, a piece of paper cut to the size of the unwanted area or onto the whole page.

When making signatures for books, the large paper makes wonderful covers for each signature. The paper is wrapped around the outside of the signature (the paper used for the inside of the book). This could be the same size as the paper or cut down so that some of the page is showing.

The last one I am going to mention is for weaving. Cut strips of the large beautiful paper. You may want to use a couple of patterns or if the one has a lot of design or color you could just use it.

I would then lay out strips going from the top to the bottom. (some people like to pin the top with a pin). Next I would start weaving one strip at a time from right to left (or l to r). The basic weave is under over under over. Great patterns can be created by changing and going over two of the strips, under one, over one, under two....... or whatever you want to do. The weaving can be tightened by pulling the strips together from both sides; or it can be left with a lot of space in between.

peace, nancy

I use it for covering book board to make covers for books. I also (surprise!) use it for wrapping, though I usually only cut a strip and wrap something in tissue and then use the strip as a decorative band around the middle. Sometimes I use the images off the print in my art too.

I think it would make a cool table top if you had one of those coffee table with a plain piece of glass set into it or the liner under glass of a tea tray. If you didn't have glass to protect it, you could seal it with a few coats of matte meduim, I suppose. They make nice decoupaging papers too!

I've used it for a fancy book cover, or to mat photos in frames. You can also line a special drawer with it.

Please disregard if this came through earlier, it didn't show up as far as I can tell though.

First, I cut the sheet in half. So I can "save" half. The other half I cut into smaller pieces, 8 x 10, 4x6 etc so that I can put the pieces in my paper files. So when I need a cool piece of paper, the smaller pieces are in my files, ready to use and I have the other half sheet for larger projects like book covers.

I discovered the over-sized (larger than 12 x 12) scrapbooks in the Martha Stewart section of Michaels. Your gorgeous papers would be perfect for those books.

First, I needed the whole sheet to cover a large cornucopia. Second time I used the paper for my son's wedding invitations cut to size. Third, I've wrapped special presents with them.

I love the big paper for lamp shades and window covering. The lamp in my daughter's room transforms itself with the help of the big paper. I have a really horrifying window at work. One sheet of the big paper and my workplace becomes a place of creativity and tranquility. That's a lot to ask form a piece of paper!

I use it for wrapping paper. Instant art and for just about all paper crafts. I think the hardest thing is letting go and cutting it!

I guess it's pretty obvious, but I use it for gift wrap.

I have made the "glue" bowls out of them. They are beautiful and useful too. Take the class that is offered, these bowls are a hoot and a holler to make and use!!

My answers aren't very original, but I do use my paper and am always in the market for more!

1. books, books, books (well...book covers)
2. cards
3. collage
I can't bear to use it as wrapping paper unless I'm giving the gift to a fellow paper-aholic who will recognize the wrapping for what it is. (and will use it in her projects)
Oh! And I always save a little scrap of each sheet to put in my "paper journal"--a sampler of every decorative paper I've ever bought.

Mostly I use big sheets of paper to make handmade books and journals from scratch for my Etsy shop, but I have also used it for scrapbooking, paper bowls, wrapping paper (the leftover bits), and paper beads. I have a paper addiction and Corey is my supplier!

Oh, and, as Corey said, I enjoy petting it too.

My beautiful (Italian) paper is too good to use! Seriously, it is so beautiful that I have a hard time cutting it down to size. My pink flowery paper will probably be in my stamping area this time next year because ... well, I've already stated the reason. The paper I have used has been for cards - mainly for the background. I love the papers. Okay, I'll admit it...I'm a paper junkie! Thanks, Corey, for being a supplier of my very serious addiction that will NEVER be cured with intervention techniques. I'm beyond help........
Have a great day!

I'm a book binder. I use the big paper for the covers. I also use it to make cards. It would be beautiful gift wrap, but I've never been able to use it for such a fleeting purpose!

I'm delighted there is such a wonderful place as RPS to purchase these lovely papers.

Of course, I get much joy out of looking at it, admiring the gorgeous colors and patterns, and dreaming of how lovely it will look covering a very special book or journal.

Thanks, Corey!

Hi Corey,

I was so excited to find your shop 2 years ago, and to find that you did sell big decorative paper! I use it mostly for cards and invitations. Sometimes I cut them into pieces for accents, and sometimes I cut them down to make the body of the card or invitation. The designs that you carry in the big sheets appeal to me more than the 12 x 12 cardstock. I always look at the paper racks first!

Hello Corey-So many uses where do I start. Cards, books, origami, base for paste paper making ( which I am hooked on making, thanks to Denise, it is just too cool), wrapping paper, just hanging out on the wall to look at,tags, mini cards, in altered art books, and so many more uses. Hi Corey:
I am actually one of those people that feel the paper. That obsession comes from my quilting background I'm sure. I love the textures of fabric and paper. Sometimes I even have a difficult time cutting into a beautiful sheet of paper in fear of "ruining" it. In the end though, my favorite thing to do with those beautiful papers is to create handbound books. I use bits and pieces of leftover paper on greeting cards and sometimes a scrapbook page or two, but my first and foremost application is to make books.

I'm a card maker so I use these big gorgeous papers to make greeting cards. I also use them to mat pictures (photos or artwork) and for wrapping paper. I love the idea of using these papers for drawn liners.

I have some old, wood framed windows and I use the paper for backing the glass panels.

It's great for tearing or cutting strategicly into pieces and decopaging old furniture.

I like it for book covers too!

I use mine for handmade books and hoarding. Hey! Some people buy tea cups and saucers and never drink tea from them...

Sometimes I use the paper for wrapping, sometimes for backgrounds and sometimes I use the scraps for paper beads.

Mostly, hoarding.

Frame it and decorate your walls. Chop it up and make a stack of cards. Cover a notebook for a journal. Wrap a small/medium gift. HOARD IT and wait for the perfect project! :) Whatever the case, your store rocks as much as the paper rocks!

Corey,
I love these beautiful papers. It is very hard to cut into them. The last piece I purchased I cut into four same sized pieces and glued unto a canvas board and decorated the edges and made a wall setting. Lots of compliments.

Am loving all of these ideas. I have also used it to cover the composition books as it makes such a pretty presentation. I like the velvet ribbon to go with it on these books.

Wow! I can't believe I won the decorative paper! When my arting friends and I get together and do something with it, we like to share with each other, I will send you a picture of what we did with it. Thank you Corey and everyone keep those creative juices going and keep sharing your ideas.
